2010 Banit Run Rumor??
« on: December 12, 2009, 06:53:02 PM »
I just got an email from another site saying that the 2010 Bandit Run will be May 15th.

Any confirmation on this and where it is starting and ending?

What is the cost to do this?

May 15-20, it's called the Florida Beach run. Not sure of the exact route the run will take though.

So, who is going to this Bandit Run?  Anyone I know?  Can't wait.  Just told big boss that I am taking off that week!

My biggest fear is that I might get stuck and then what?  :-0

They don't still do that, do they?  I figured the EPA would have killed that off long ago, out of concern about oil drips and antifreeze spills... :-\

Daytona beach driving is permitted daily seaward of the clearly marked dune conservation zone depending on tides and access ramps being opened.
The beach is open to vehicles:
            May 1 through Oct. 31 from 8 a.m.-7 p.m.
Nov. 1 through April 30 from sunrise to sunset

Really?  Frankly, I'm the drop-dead kind of surprised by that.  In the 50s and 60s when the family vacationed there there weren't any restrictions, but "everybody" knew you didn't park in the dry sand areas because it was so easy to get stuck (that was in the days of mostly open diffs and hardly anyone had a 4 X 4).  Given all the emphasis on water quality standards I would have bet good money that they didn't allow you on the beach at all, under any circumstances, lest a vehicle become disabled and then caught by an incoming tide.  Potentially you could "lose" 20 gallons of gasoline, 6 quarts of motor oil, the rear end and transmission fluids, and a bunch of ethylene glycol from the radiator into the beach environment if a car got submerged like that.  Huh... ??? ??? ???

Yeah, Rick- you can drive on the beach in Daytona, but you gotta buy a permit.  We did it either last year or the year before.

ya they hit you with a "non resident" pass fee and there are only certain places you can drive.   not like the old days when you could run miles and miles for free...we used to wait for high tide and watch the tourists cars that were parked get swamped...if you hade a 4WD you could make some extra beer money pullin em out.
