Well I went to fix my headlights the other day and my ground effects or spoilers whatever they are called broke off cause they were fiberglassed in >:( Well after thar I was just going to chip the fiberglass and bondo away turns out the whole fender is bondo and fiberglass 1 inch thick and underneath is rust holes and crappy patches made out of flashing (paper thin tin) So after looking the whole car is bondo and fiberglass even the roof seams were bondo and just started cracking so I took the whole front end off today and I am yanking the motor and trans and taking the cowl and the whole interior out of it and whatever other little parts that are good off and scrapping the rest because the body is shot and will take like 10k to fix so I have everything to finish my first trans am and I am going to try to finish up the body work and scrape up the money to get it painted. But I didnt really lose any money I got a interior I needed and a motor and trans and other various parts. Will have maybe 300 from the scrapyard for the shell being that scrap is up.
Here she is when I got the car

Looks like you have several solid birds. Are they being combined into one super Trans Am? Either way, can't wait to see the progress.
-
Well my friend u just gave my project a name I call her Eve but the project itself will b called Super Trans am. Thanks for the compliments I have stripped I think like 4 or 5 cars since i was 12 just to build the one. Change of color scheme though since its not numbers matching I think I am going white. Will add more pics soon hopefully
-
looks like a fun build. keep us posted.
-
Thnx 4speed hope it turns out half as nice as ur TA I am still watching ur 77 build
-
So is the 78 Formy gonna be a donor car?
-
Yes sir Mike it is or was I had it for awhile and talked to the ppl for getting a title and I would have to do a lot of work to get the title so i stripped the whole car down to a bare shell and scrapped it
-
Well cut the yellow car up and sent it to the scrap yard got some money and painted the 400 pontiac I took out of it and getting ready to get it back together and drop it in. Ordering my floor pan tomorrow and will be here Monday or tuesday then onto bodywork. I wanted silver paint but my budget wont allow for the paint so I have a gallon of white. I like the White with red interior a lot dont see it much and I just like the way the color looks on the car itself. Will add more pics of my progress tomorrow if I remember the camera I know we're all a bunch of picture whores around here and I am one of them. Let me know what you guys think Thanks Shane
-
Since my last post I have put the front end on the car but its just there for mock up and the motor and trans are in and my dad and I are getting ready to hook up everything and get it running then we are starting on the bodywork then wiring and paint then final assembly hopefully this all goes well and I get it done this summer or atleast done for now. I will have to get pics soon.

here are the pics I promised, got the car taken apart. Painted the cowl and the trunk. Even did the inner fenders, the trunk was rubbercoated then I spackle painted it like factory. The bottom side of the inner fenders where rubbercoated and the top was painted gloss black. Going to try and get the motor started this week or weekend. All is coming together after 5 years.
-
right!!
glad to see it
-
thank you sir
there is more work coming soon like the radiator support had new bushings on the way and I have to finish painting it . Little things turn out to look like big things when there done.
-
does anyone know how to make the pics samller so it doesnt cut them
and i am ordering more parts thursday and getting more painting and touching up done
Gonna try to hang the good doors on the car and get the body all together to start stripping and then primer
Thank you
Shane
-
mine are @ 800x600 saved in photo bucket
you know doors are easier to strip and block sand on a set of horses. it easier to do the jams of the doors and on the car jams. the paint looks better to.
my doors ,fenders, hood, bumpers will not go back on the car until after paint.
-
thanks for the reply 4speed
they are easier and look better but I want them on the car cause they are not the ones I took off. So I am going to try and get them fitted then do the body and paint. I don't know how I am going to do it cause my dad and I are doing the paint and bodywork. I will be spur of the moment I guess.
Thanks for the advice, how is your 77 going?
-
well came into a dillema, order headers and ordering floor pan and bushings tomorrow. I have money still left after that and I cant decide if I want to spend 100 plus shipping on traction bars or buy coilovers that will lower the front 1 inch and the back to for 140 with free shipping, leaning towards coilovers cause I have a set of ladder bars already they were free my dad had them setting around and they fit my car. Is there any pros and cons on traction bars or ladder bars. Really need advice on this one cause I dont know.
Thanks
Shane
-
Wish I could help, but I know I would spend money on a solid floor first and use the ladder bars.
Keep up the good work!!
-
Thanks for the help bud
I went ahead and just bought the floor just needs to get here now and then have to weld it in, then I ordered a set of Lakewood traction bars for 58 dollars. I like them cause there bright yellow and stand out.
Anyone think I should use subframe connectors, my car isnt a strict drag car just want to take it out and have fun with it every now anf then.
-
Well the car is in about 1000 pieces in my garage new floor is in but not finished, part of my floor is rotted that they dont make so it has to be fabricated from sheetmetal but I am learning and messing with metal is fun! The more I do the more it reminds me of a race car but its gna be a street cruiser. 4speed is rite stripping the doors on a sawhorse is easy one I stripped on the car and the other off the car. Like it better off the car its easier, so tell me wat u guys think bout me build
Thanks
Shane
-
aahem....ummm....I'm looking all over but I don't see any pics of the work you've done....is it technical dificulties on my end or...
SOUNDS like you getting lots done, the more welding and fab work you do the better you'll get at it.
I think you made a wise decision to get the floor fixed up properly first. Better to have a solid platform to work with before you beef up the HP
-
Well sorry in the late reply but no pics yet as I always forget the camera DOH! lol
But I will get pics soon I know we are picture whores on here. I am one of them lmao
-
lol...ok well i'll be waiting
-
Me too... on with the pics. 8)

Here is a pic of the newest member to my collection of forget and abdoned Trans am's, this will be getting a make over. everything is pretty much solid except it has major rust in the floor. Oh how hard is it to convert a manual crank window car to a power window car? I have the doors and the eletrical stuff just not the know how.

-
Yes ma'am thats whats happenin, thank ya for the luck its much appreciated :)
-
whos that at the back of the car?
she looks stressed!!
-
Previous owners wife, i dnt know her just happened to be there. LMAO
-
Well I am Trans am less now!! It's a sad day cause the parts car didnt have a good frame underneath of it. Didnt know that til today when we tore into it. And the 78 is to far gone to mess with. They are being sold monday to the local scrapyard. Don't really want to but thats where they are headed. Sold both Pontiac 400 motors too. This is actually helpng me cause I am putting a down payment on a 97 Dodge ram 1500 4x4. Get to pick it up tomorrow or the next day.
-
So no more trans am anymore?
-
Nope not anymore. I dont have anything pontiac, but I am not going to CHEVY! Still a BOP guy, looking at a running and driving 72 Skylark. My addiction for muscle cars is always gonna be there.
-
Also the deal fell through with the dodge. It didnt have a title.
-
Poor T\A's :(
