17" wheel widest combo
« on: December 29, 2012, 02:46:57 PM »
In the process of researching wheels to order for my 81 t/a I have my sights set on 17" american racing torq thrust II's, Id like to run the widest tire and wheel combo possible in the back with something skinnier in the front(245-255), I also know the later of the 2nd gens have the seat belt bulge and smaller wheel wells. Has anyone fit a 17x10 or even a 17x11 in back on their ride? And if so what tire/B.S. did they use. Stance pics would be awesome as well.

Alot of the guys going with Year One 17 x 9 snowflakes, Rally II's, or Honeycombs are running 255/45R17 front and 285/40R17 rear with no issues- 275/40R17's F/R are also a popular choice. John Paige (NOT A TA) has run a 315/35R17 on a 17 x 11 TT II, but as he mentions it's a tight fit with the stock width wheeltubs, unloaded trunk, etc.

I personally would just go for the 17 x 9's F/R with a 4 7/8" backspacing (same as the YO 17" wheels)- that way if you lower the car you'll still have sidewall clearance and no rubbing.
