Dome light with map/reading lights??
« on: July 03, 2011, 05:34:05 PM »
I have a dome light with the two map/reading lights I want to install in my 78. Just wondering about the wiring there two wires on the back/top of light, 1 orange w/white stripe and 1 white. do these just wire into the 2 wires from the normal round style dome light?

Thanks, John/TA78

Okay so why does my light have four wires?  I am also doing the swap. I have two orange and two white. But one orange and white are attached together and the other orange and white are the ground style wire not the actual wire kind. Man that sounded confusing. If you know what I am talking about please tell me what to do. Thanks.

Look again.  The "white" wire that joins to the orange one is actually a white wire with an orange stripe.  That's 12 volt always on power.  The white wire is switched ground.

Okay so the white with orange stripe and orange wire are what get ties to the dome light harness and what happens to the others?

Post a picture.  That circuit plugs into the harness at the trunk junction.  The orange wire (or orange wire with a white stripe) gets always on power and the white wire is switched ground.

Is this light from a T/A? Looks like that would be a feed to another light.

Dude at the Carlisle GM show had nothing but TA and firebird parts sold it to be and said it was a TA. Has the same chrome cover piece also. I think he is a member on here. He is a big TA parts mover so I would think he knows what he's got.

Could be. I can't remember if mine has that or not. I will check when I get home. I know they used the same light in some of the family cars, and thought that could be the feed to a light for the rear seats.

Ugh. I hope not. So I guess if nothing else I could just have them taped off huh? Maybe try it that way.

That would be all you would have to do.

Crap, I can't check mine when I get home. It's still at body shop, and the light is in it. Hopefully someone else will know or can check theirs.

Well I'm home now and hooked up the two wire that are connected to eachother. The center light works. I only have one bulb to test the map lights and it didn't work. Could be bad bulb. I'll get new bulbs and then go from there. Thanks for your help
