That's because they didn't. Nor any turbo 400s. Which leads me to agree with Brett's statement.

It looks like a combination of a turbo car with a 400 car and a Fire Am with a Macho T/A. Anyone here know what that makes it?

Some of the Macho cars were built with th400 transmissions and turbocharged small block Chevy engines. The majority were Pontiac and Olds powered, but when their clients wanted a nasty engine they got out the hairdryers. There were several Macho T/A Talons that were turbocharged and sent to Saudi Arabia to rich sheiks in the late '70's and early '80's.

Once upon a time I did no small amount of research on putting twin pull-though turbos on a 400. Then things worked out so getting married was more attractive, and the money for the turbos was spent on the engagement ring. Lo these 29 years later I must admit that the ring yielded a better return on investment than the turbos would have -- although I still have the car too...

Seriously though, I heard the turbocharged MACHO T/A's weren't much faster, if at all, than regular 400's. But they also cost a pretty penny :? .

DKM (who made the Machos) did indeed offer a turbo option in 78 & 79. It was an HO Racing system with a pressurized carb bonnet. When in proper tune they were supposedly very fast, but... like all things complex, keeping it in that "proper tune" took some effort. I've read a couple of road tests from "back in the day" about the Macho Turbos. One was of a privately owned Macho that had been in the hands of the private owner for over a year. The author of the article wasn't too impressed as it wasn't even as fast as a stock W72. The other was of a car direct from DKM... the author of that article was very impressed and it was very fast.
