does a power steering pump have any numbers that would tie it to a specific car?

If I recall correctly, that pump is right on the drivers front of the LS1.  Just unbolt and bolt up the new one....if in fact that's what's leaking.  You're going to have to clean everything then look for leaking fluid.  Most likely a hose, then the steering box and finally the pump.  But it could be any of the above.  If it's the gear, you may have to pull it and that's a bigger job than the pump.

To answer the first question, no there are no numbers that tie a power steering pump to a specific car.  Only the transmission and engine tie to the body VIN.  There are date codes on parts that tie them to a time period.  For example, the windows have a date code as well as many other parts.  There are specific numbers that tie to a specific type of car, the carburetor for example.  But the carburetor doesn't tie to a specific VIN only a specific division/engine/transmission combination.
