« on: March 08, 2012, 06:26:54 AM »

They were not riveted from factory. Aftermarket plates are riveted. I have my original and bought new OER plates. The OER plates are very brightly polished as compared to the originals also.  Little hard to see, but here is a pic of the originals on my 79'.

It seems like the sills on the 60's cars, like the gto were rivited, mine on my 78 are not. I've seen the repops, they look like crap.

My 76 has her original ones also.  when they advertise as "riveted"  they are referencing the sticker the Fisher body emblem on it.  It appears to have 2 rivets holding the plate on when in fact it is just a foil sticker.  As Burd stated, the earlier cars had these emblems riveted on.  http://www.rickscamaros.com/camaro-sill-plates-with-riveted-fisher-emblem-1967-1969.html
Mine do have scratches in them, but I feel it adds petina to the car.  It is 36 yrs old.
Burd, I agree.  Many of the repops I have seen look like crap.  They look fake.  Here is the best pic I have my original ones.

Yes, I agree w/ green bird, I replaced mine years ago w gm ones, back in the 8o's, and now even the replacements are scratched, but it looks like it fits the rest of the car, my orig pair wasnt riveted, neither are these. Greenbird, love the st wheel and the wood grain dash.

Interesting. I might have to buy a set of repops. I can't seem to locate the ones that came with my 78 and they looked like CRAP anyway. They were REALLY rough. How much does a set cost?

$25 ea. for the re-pop, $115 ea for gm (ames catalog) I paid around $110 for the set back in the late 80's. they also sell the FISHER sticker, and it says the orig's were riveted. ::)

Originals are best. If I were going with repo ones, I like the OER brand best. Only drawback to them are they are very shiny as compared to originals. Other than that pretty good quality. The ones I have are about 60-65 bucks. The $25 ones Burd is speaking of must be really cheaply made.
