Tires
« on: March 13, 2007, 08:52:56 PM »
The TA is coming together pretty quick now, of coarse, it has been 2 1/2 years. Any suggestions on tire size? I have heard 235 65's look real good. I was thinking of the BF Goodrich T/As. They are on the factory 7" snowflakes. I have another question I will post separately. Thanks, I enjoy the forum.

I've always liked the look of 235/60's or 245/50's

I looked at the list of BFG's radial TA sizes and they don't make 235-65's. The original size  would be 225-70-15. The tire size question has been asked many times and the majority of TA owners seem to prefer 255-60's, since they are wider, but still very close to the same diameter as the original size. So your speedo stays accurate. The next preferred size seems to be 245-60's, which I think would work great on 7" wheels myself. They would be a little shorter than stock tires.
235-60's are even shorter and would look too small in my opinion.
Here's a site that shows all the sizes and the specs for each size. http://www.tirerack.com/tires/Spec.jsp?make=BFGoodrich&model=Radial+T%2FA&tirePageLocQty=

My TA came with 255 60's all the way around. I am thinking of putting 275's on the back.

Firestone makes a "Firehawk Indy 500" tire in these sizes and they look pretty good. And,
being a "Firehawk" they are a natural.

I had problems with 255/60s in the front.  Passenger side tire kept hitting the fender bolts when i hit a dip in the road and would cut the tire up bad.  Also saw some rub spots on the inner fender.  Replacing it with 235s in the front now.  When I bought the car it had some worn out 235s and I did not have a problem but I also went from a 15x7 to 15x8.

Thanks for the heads up, I may have to check my clearance in the front.
I will also be going from 15X7 to 15X8. I already have the snowflakes to put on, just need tires.
I may go ahead and mount the existing 255/60's and put them on front before I buy new tires.

Is your front suspension stock height?

Thanks again,
