Leaf Springs
« on: March 18, 2007, 11:31:54 AM »
I am in the middle of changing my leaf springs on my 78.  I have them completely off and the rear end is out, so that is goodness.  I noticed yesterday that the passenger side has 5 leafs and the driver side has 4 leafs.  Is this normal for a WS6 suspension?

The leafs I bought to replace these have 6 leafs.  NPD told me that it is easy to remove 1 or 2 leafs.

The question I have is: How many leafs on each side; 4 or 5?

Thanks

My '80 has the WS6 susp. and it has 4 leaves on both sides.  Somebody appearantly changed one of your springs before you bought the car.

Thanks for confirming.

I have no doubt that someone messed with the original setup.  This is just one of many examples while working on this car that have made me step back and scratch my head saying wtf.

My 76 only had two leafs per side. I reckon out in Reno, NV it looks cool to lower the rear end and have the inner fender chew up the sidewall of the tire.  ::)

Once I got her back to a more civilized part of the country I robbed a set from a low mile 80 SE and they had 4 per side as well. Now she sits all nice and pretty.  ;)

ha ha... I forgot about that. The desert rat thingy stuck tho. Seriously tho the guy I bought my 76 from scared me to death. They had a freaking purple bug light INSIDE THEIR HOUSE!!!! He said there were three boa's loose in the house as well. Somewhere in Wyoming I pulled every loose piece outta the car and did a full mlitary inspection.

UPS delivered my new leafs, spring mounting kit and rear sway bar bushings yesterday from NPD.  ;D
Everything looks great.  Hopefully this weekend, I can start to put everything back together.  ;)
Does anyone know what the torque amounts are for the following:
1. front eye to mounting bracket
2. front mounting bracket to body
3. shackle to frame
4. shackle to rear eye
5. ubolt to spring plate
6. 't' bolt to spring plate/sway bar
7. rear upper sway bar to body

Thanks
