17 inch yo wheels and tire gap?
« on: August 22, 2011, 11:16:01 AM »
I have bnee nwanting to get a set of yo 17s for a long time now, I have been looking at pictures with them on t/as with stock suspention and for some reason they make the car sit up high and make it look like a truck..
I know I will never be able to but the PTFlowering kit so should I just plan on going with some other wheels ?
I love how my first t/a looked with the cragar stars I had on it or maybe even just get a set of 15x8 snowflakes

well you can do an easy lower with some lowering blocks and cutting your coil springs.... might have 100 bucks tied up into that.... but if you are looking for different wheels, 15x8 snowflakes are always a good looking original wheel...

The 17" wheels don't make the car sit up high. The tires that many people put on the 17" wheels are shorter than the original size tires, so it leaves more space between the tire and the fender openings than original. With shorter tires, the car is actually sitting lower than stock.
It doesn't have to look that way. It's a matter of choosing a 17" tire that is approximately the same diameter as the original size tires are. Then it will look more normal.

Even the one with 255/50/17's wich are 27 inch tall tires looks truckish.
Wheel well is filled but the car is 2 feet of the ground.
Here is an example.

My minvan is lower.

But a 27" tall tire on the 17" wheel is not going to be any taller than a 27" tire on a 15" wheel. 27" is 27" regardless of what wheel is in it.
If the car sits up higher, logically, it can't be because of using a tire that's the same height as the original tire. It has to be because of the suspension. Many times the new springs people are using sit the car up higher than original. Or sometimes they've lightened the engine with aluminum parts or by removing a/c components. Either of those things could have happened on the blue car.

I just added the 17x9 Year One snow flake wheels and 275/40/15 tires, and my car sits lower and I think looks good and will post a picture as soon as I possibly can.

Im lowering the body on mine.  dont have the tires yet for my 17's , as Im not sure what I need.  then once the car is done and drive it a bit to get the car settled to its ride height, I'll lower it.

Gold79, I don't go on the forums too often and you've been on these rims since they came out.  I remember you asking me if you could buy my set off my car a long time ago.  PM me if you're ever interested in buying mine used.  My ex girlfriend bought them for me anyways...best thing that came out of that relationship  :D  You can minimize the "truck" look by dropping the body 1/2" for less than $100 if you buy adjustable solid body mounts.  Lowering the rear is pretty much free...drop the spring eye mounts and drill some holes.  PTFB "headquarters" is about 20min away from my house so you can kill two stones with one BIRD if you take a drive out to Chicago

How much would you be looking to get for the rims?

You have been talkin about buying these wheels on here since they came out.  Quit being such a tighta$$ already and just buy them so we don't need to see anymore threads from you on these wheels.  :P

hope you don't take this post the wrong way.
