1979 front bumper absorber
« on: August 30, 2015, 10:01:55 PM »
New here, still looking around.  Haven't had the chance to really check out everything, but I've got one question.  Does anybody know if a new front absorber is available for the 79 Trans Ams?  I've checked the usual suspects (NPD, Classic Ind, YearOne) but no luck.

thanks for the input,

Brent

Are you looking for the urethane nose itself or the plastic impact cushion located behind the nose cone?

Sorry, should have been more specific.  My urethane nose is fine; I need the impact cushion behind it that is supposed to be riveted to the heavy steel piece that I would consider the actual "bumper".

Thanks,

Never seen them new, only used, not that I've really looked either. On 79-81 it is that black plastic milk crate waffle style not spongey foam of previous years. If you use one that's out of shape i can see it affecting the line up of the nose too.

Original GM number is 10005782.

Actually, mine is the spongy, hard foam - not "waffle style".  I guess mines OK, it's just that it came loose from the rivets and just kind of flops around in there.  I can probably use adhesive and attach it back to the support :-\.

Thanks,

Ok never seen it. It is actually a 79 nose and not a 78?

I think both styles were used as my own '79 had the foam style but most I have seen since are the hard plastic  egg-crate style

Not that I'm aware of.

You would need to find a used one...which may or may not be in the same shape as what you have.
I'd try to repair what you have if possible.
