Restoring a 78 SE, california car and would like to know what color the rear end and suspension colors should be, if its ok to just use an undercoating on the bottom of the car?

If its black, please let me know if it should be Gloss, Semi or Flat.

very much appreciate the help.

not sure about an SE, but a lot of the 78 TA's have red oxide on the underneath part of car, rear end semi gloss black fish, swa bare is more of a machine gray and the shock's are gray. rear wheel wells are black under coating such as a rubber type coating. Not positive on all this but this is what I found with my original car. Type in under side of 78 SE and web sites have some good pictures representing some restored autos.
Not sure if I was any Help.

Yes, GM's orange primer over floor, diff, springs and sway bar components largely unpainted steel. SE didn't make a difference being a pinstripe option.
