« on: August 01, 2010, 11:35:40 AM »
alright guys did some home worth
fuel pressure on the y82= good
cam = good
timing= good
carb=good
plugs and wires cap rotor=good
my volt guage goes from 13-17 or 18
when the car hits 18 it stalls
17 it back fires
13-15 it runs like it used too.
when the head lights are on i hit the gas the volt guage goes up to 17 but my head lights get dim very dim
do you think its all just in my alternator or do i have an electrical problem to chase down?

atleast im getting very close to being able to drive it for longer than i can.
part of me says its got to be just in the alt the other says its electrical and good luck figuring it out.

any ideas please help guys im really aggrivated and ready to donate this pos to good will ,,,,,well not really but you know what i mean.

thank you thank you thank you.

If the voltage is spiking up that high, I'm inclined to think it's the regulator. Since it's built into the alt, replacing the whole thing wouldn't be a bad idea.

I agree.  If it is spiking, I would get a new one.

Rick,  Vehicles are designed to run between 13.5 volts and 15.5 volts.  When they go over or under that they start to run funny. especially newer module controlled vehicles.  If you are having driveability issues and it starts when the voltage is up to 16 or more, fix the alternator problem. Replace it!!!
