re-paint and maintenance on my 79
« on: April 22, 2010, 06:20:51 PM »
I got the bird out last night to get some pics of it.  I have been wanting to repaint and clean up the front on the 400 so I took all the brackets off and gave them a light sanding and painted them with a better quality paint.   the paint on the water pump was so cheep brake cleaner washed it off. so to keep the stock look going I painted the pump corp blue while all the brackets were off.

then while waiting for the paint to dry , I worked on the shaker.  from the first time putting it on it leaned to the right a little.  the air cleaner and the 74 Q-jet didnt really fit together right. the air cleaner would rock back and forth on the carb. so when I would tighten the wing nut it would lean to the pass side. and the weatherstripping didnt touch the hood.
so I cut a ring from a piece of 1/4" rubber and put that on the carb  to raise the air cleaner off the carb a little .  that worked out  ;)
