« on: July 06, 2011, 03:27:51 PM »
Im working on this 79 T/A that needs the area in the floor where the front of the leaf spring cup bolts to the frame rail and floor.

the spring cup was being held by 1 of the 3 bolts.

here is the piece I got from ShakerBreaker  Dave.

here is the area cut off , and test fitting the new.  as you can see I found more holes in the rail.  Im just going to plate the rail area. it not a show car and the owner just wants it to be a safe driver.

I should have just brought the shell of that '79 to you, to get all the sections you needed.

nice job doug, the finished pics look great and better than new.  it's great when someone says, " Yeah i can fix it, i will figure something out."   cut out the old, weld in the new, patch the rest, love it.

I can't speak for Sir English's project but yes, if the rust is bad enough for the surrounding metal to weaken...the spring pocket can come through the floor.

I saw this on an '81 T/A in my shop....pockets through the floor on both sides  :o

Squirrel, i was lucky as it hadn't , but i did have to replace all the area , spring cup included, floor, inner rocker, outer rocker, under the rear seat base, rear belt mount etc etc.

I have seen early European Fords, that have rotted and the suspension comes up through the floor !!

As always, nice work Doug! Wish I could weld like that! But then again, I no longer have a bird to work on, so I guess it's a moot point, lol!!
