Hi. I am new to this community. I used to belong to another message board back in 2002 and I cannot find it any more and this looks like the best one around at this point.
I have a 1979 Trans Am that sat in the yard since 2003. I am looking to start restoring it but I cannot get past the simple feat of opening the door.
Neither door is locked.
Neither door opens. About a year ago, I opened it and it dropped down quite a bit and it was a bear getting closed again, so I have not opened it since. Now that I want to, I cannot get it to open. Any ideas are welcomed. I have a t-top but cannot access that. No way in to do it from the inside.
Thanks!

Hinges are badly worn and now hanging on the striker bolt even when door handles released. It won't hurt to spray around the door edges to loosen the seal and around the striker and catch area, then prepare for heavy lifting as you lift handles but not using the handles, the pot metal casting break easily. You may need a large, flat pry bar to lever from the base but dont pinch the panel.

I guess he never made it into the car where the food and water were.

That seems to be the case with everyone here it seems.

Register, post a question, then never return.
Meanwhile, guys have run around, scanned diagrams and dug up photos to describe the issue, not this time perhaps, but often. No one is helping answer my questions to get back on the road.

Agreed. Kinda sad. But in the bright side years of posts still exist and hopefully help some out. It’s helps me for sure.
