75 Trans Am automatic transmission problem
« on: June 03, 2018, 10:47:25 AM »
I am restoring my '75 TA. It has been a ten year project not having time or money to complete it quickly. A few years ago I had the engine and transmission replaced. I am now back on the project and when the drivetrain was replaced evidently they never connected something and you can shift into any gear any time. No safety switch? Also, the steering column dose not turn when shifting. Does anyone know what the fix is?
Thanks,
Jan

Sounds like the backdrive mechanism is missing or disconnected. Does it have headers as well? Stick your head under the car, where the shifter cable mounts there should also be rods running off it into the base of the steering column where it comes through the firewall next to engine.

Shift into any gear at any time? Not following that one unless you mean removing keys, which wasn't mentioned, same answer above.
