Option Packages/Order Sheets
« on: April 01, 2009, 12:03:17 PM »
OK, I am going to do my best to describe what I am looking for information about.  Lets roll the clock back to 1980, I am going to go down to my local Pontiac dealer and order myself a new Trans Am.  I'm guessing I would sit down with the salesman and look over a sheet of options and each option package would be titled and what is included in that package listed, and the price.

Example:
Lamp Group (TR9)- $22.00
- Luggage Compartment Lamp
- Glove Box Lamp
- I/Panel Courtesy Lamp

What I was wondering, were these option/order sheets ever documented or preserved anywhere?  I know I have seem them quoted or pictures of scanned images of them posted on here before.  Does anyone sell these or have a copy of one that I could purchase for 1980?  I would just like to add one more piece of history to my collection, thought this would be interesting to look at and see what options there were in 1980.

Thanks for any and all help!

Hey guys,

I found an example of what I am looking for:

This one was taken off of GM's website and is for a 2009 Corvette, but it is basically what I am looking for.  I know back in the day, this was in paper form, but I still don't really know what to call it.  I guess the "few sheets of paper with every option and the prices for a 1980 Trans Am" just doesn't sound right!

Thanks again for any information!

They weren't like that.  Remember the tests you could take where you darken a bubble with a number two pencil?  That's what they looked like.  See John Witzke's paper on the W72 engine.  He has a copy of the original 1977 order form.  But I don't think his shows all the pages.  I noticed all the options aren't shown.  But it gives you an idea of what they looked like.

I have the complete price sheet for 1980 that shows all of the options and prices, but I do not have a copy of the order sheet that I have found.

I remember the sales guy filling in those little bubbles.  I never thought to get copies of all that stuff.  It was just a car....no big deal.  I didn't realize.......

Yeah, I knew there had to be more than John has in his paper.  What does it say about the power trunk option?  Do you need the lamp group with that?

That's from the PHS on one of my '79's..."remote control decklid release" (A90) is listed separate from "lamp group" (TR9) on the invoice so I assume they aren't related...??
"Lamp group" includes trunk light, under-dash lights, and glove-box light.

There's an extra line on the lamp group when you order the power trunk release.  That's why I was asking.  So, I guess you could get a power trunk release without the lamp group.  But I'm not really sure.

when i ordered my 76 i remember the guy asking about a few options,(AC-deluxe int.-tilt-PW-PDL) but nothing like that list. i think as the years went by there were more and more "option packages" that lessened the choices the cust. had to make.
