ask him about the valve work and if they were ported or not.. Also depending on the cam, you wont even be able to use his valve springs... I wouldnt pay over 250-300 for them depending how bad you want them

Its not something thats super urgent but they are cleaned up nice so I wasn't sure what the value would be..  Seems like hes really trying to unload them so I thought I could get them for a decent price..

Heres a pix of one of them:

275 seems like a fair price for those... Heads pop up alot where I live so its no big deal if it dont fall through... Plus its not like many ppl are building olds 455s so let him wait it out a bit and let him lower the price before you claw him down

I asked him if they were ported and what size valves and this is what he said:
"The valves were not ported just cleaned up, and I believe they guy at my machine shop said they were big valves"

How do you measure if its a big or small valve so I can have him measure them for me??

Standard valves in C-heads are 2" intake, 1.625" exhaust.
The larger valved sets had 2.07" intake valve from factory.
So anything larger than 2" int would be considered big valve.

Hope this helps.

and dont be sold on a certain pair of heads, those heads come up quite often, people saying they are rare and overpricing them astronomically..... Big valves help but without ported heads, your still lacking flow, i have the same problem and if you fixed it the olds 455 would be a ridiculous beast

This is what the guy replied when I asked him about the heads:

Ok I talked to my buddy at the machine shop today to get a list of what he did to the heads:

Stock Replacement Valves
Intake 30 Degree Cut
Stock High Output Springs
5 Angle Valve Job on Intake
3 Angle Valve Job on Exhaust
Pockets Blended
Oil Return Holes Opened
Gasket Surfaces Decked
CompCams Rocker Arms Kit with Guideplates

325 is an a decent price because you know they are in  really good shape, and because they are c heads, and to do the same thing over again would cost more.... might go to 375 because they are solid but would not go anymore... Do it right the first time and you wont have to do it again is my words of advice.... But just keep in mind there are other olds 455 heads out there

He measured the intake valve for me and told me the following:

Intake is 2" or maybe alittle bit bigger
Exhaust is 1.6"

I wrote him back this:

I was actually looking for the heads with the bigger intake which is about 2.07"

His answer:

Thats prob what they are because it hangs over the 2 slightly. And .07 is such a small difference is it really worth it?

So I"m assuming they are the big valves but I don't believe they have the hardened seats so I'm not sure if they are worth buying..

Let me put it this way in order to determine if buying these heads is a good idea.... What are your intentions with the engine?
