Numbers crunching Carb to W72, X7 block
« on: September 23, 2011, 09:16:33 AM »
Well I was surprised when I had the carb taken off the car to get sent to Cliff Ruggles.  I had a number in mind from John Witktec(sp) W72 report on the carb number, but I think I'm dealing with a service replacement.  What do you think?  Here are the numbers.

17058394
1504

The carb belongs to a 1978 Y82 with WS6 & W72.  It was built in the 3rd week of September, 1977 in Norwood, Ohio.

I can't decode the sixth or seventh digit.  They don't match anything.  Where the three is should be either 1 or 2 for federal use and 4 or 5 is for California.  Where the 9 is should be a 6 or 7 for Pontiac.

The Jullian date indicates the 150th day of 1974.  I'm at a loss to figure it out other then the carb is a service replacement.

Thanks,
Jim

I didnt take the time to decode your carb.  but if cliff is going to build it , it will be 100x better then it was when new.   also  Maryland Bandit can do you a good job too , using Cliffs kit and parts.
