'81 Recaro seats
« on: July 02, 2010, 01:25:41 PM »
We all know these are rare but thought I would try.  Looking for full set - front and rear - of the '81 Recaro seats.  Condition of seat covering not important but all the hardware must be there.  If anyone has a set please send plenty of pictures and a price to deanpapageorge@yahoo.com.  Thanks,

Dean

Dean as you might imagine, you are looking for something very sought
after. I have heard that the seats were used in other applications, but
in non Pace Car colors.

Do you have a Pace car or is it just for the uniqueness?

Joe,

No, I don't have a Pace car but looking for the "uniqueness" factor.

These were only used in the 1981 trans am pacecar.

Some of the third gen cars had them as well as some Mustangs. I had a set slip through my fingers in the spring. Not happy about it at all.

I too am looking for a set!!

I was parusing through some third gen sites, and found front seats, the rear seats if I'm not mistaken are stock seats with the black and red fabric covering, and bird embroidered in the middle. You might have to piece together a set. Let me know how you make out!!

Yea, Recaro didn't make a seat for just a small number of
'81 TA's... I don't know which third gens used it, but I've
heard/read this a few times before.

Mustang wise, I thought that was a smaller seat, but just
don't know for sure.

I'm not 100% sure either

for some reason I'm drawn to 1984 as the year they had recaro seats...could be wrong though

Just out of curiousity I checked out Recaro's website. They're aftermarket selection has gotten a lot larger since I went there last time. The only problem is that the only colors they offer is black (probably not much of a problem for somebody to recover, though, I'd guess). While they're not what came in the 81 pace car, for sure, they do seem to have a large selection. Perhaps there is an option there, and all you'd have to do is track down the back seats?

Thanks to all that have replied!  The rear seats are still a little unique but maybe that is just a matter of "massaging" the upholstery and the under lying foam.  Being that I know nothing about upholstery that is a problem.  As for the third gen seats by Recaro, the front would probably work but again the rears are different than the second gen cars.  Maybe I am getting too picky.  Never hurts to ask though.

FWIW I believe the rear seat foams would be the same for any 2nd gen

Also (on a random note) here's a pic of some original '81 NASCAR pace car seats that were recovered in black leather:

This is one of the FEW items that are readilly avaliable in the UK.

If there was a way of shipping them............, loads of factory cars here were fitted with them, in fact the Bmw 5 series seats i have in my Bird are made by Recaro.

Seems like a pretty reasonable price.
