in the mid 70s alot of the auto cars had the 3:08 for good mpg, the 3:23 was the "perf" gear for manuals...im guessing early yrs offered the 3:42 and 3:73

I forgot your gears were that low Brian ,and I can see why you want a 4 speed overdrive ,that would be awesome . I couldn't imagine a torque monster 455 like yours on the highway with those gears

Yep. About 13mpg IF I keep it under 60mph on the highway. One of the major reasons I'll be trailering it to Saratoga in July. Anything above 60mph and I can watch the gas needle move. It's a fun ride until I get to the gas station!!

But my car was setup this way in anticipation of a 200R4 so all I need to do is swap it in, adjust it, and I'm good to go. No worries that my engine is rev'ing too low with the overdrive.

So I future proofed my car. Now just to get to the future when I can afford to have it built and swap it in ;)

3:42 was stock on the 78 four speed.
