We are in the process of updating the website & registration form. The show will be June 19-22, 2009 in Dundee, MI. The Holiday Inn Express & Waterpark will be the host hotel. They are currently writing up contracts to block 25 rooms for the show. The will also be hosting the Friday night dinner buffet. Fees for the show will be the same as 2007 and rooms will hopefully also be the same. Please remember that along with sponsorships, early pre-registrations help us to make sure we can proceed for 2009. We very much enjoy seeing everyone and want this show to move forward & grow. June is a wonderful time in the great State of Michigan. So keep an eye to the website for updates.

Let us know when we can start registering at the hotel for reservations. I'll wait a bit before submitting my GLRFG registration however, I think this will be my "out of state" trip. We'll see, haven't decided yet but I do want to at least get my room reserved.
-
Looking at the calendar now... :-\ :-\ ;)
-
I will be there.
-
Count us in too. What Maryland bandit is correct. This is a really nice show. We were hoping it would be back in 09.

Tell 'em you are sick and head to Dundee instead. I too have grown to hate weddings, especially when I'm told in not-so-subtle terms that my gift had better exceed the catering cost per plate for me and my date. :-\ :-\

Hey Rick, my cousin won one of those race packages through his bank, where you get to drive the car out on the track, and wanted me to go with him to Atlanta for it but I had long committed to this friend's wedding. Well my cousin is not into NASCAR at all and he told me that he was going to give me the package when we got down there. UGH!!
-
I think I'd be going to that once in a lifetime "free" event in Atlanta! Wow, that would be awesome to do.

They'd definitely get the "I'm sick" routine in that case -- even if I had to hire somebody to answer the phone and make throwing-up noises all weekend. :D :D :D

i wouldnt even say i was sick i would just go and not tell anyone

i live with her and i would be in big trouble if i didnt go

i live with her and i would be in big trouble if i didnt go
Yeah, that's what happened at the last one I got roped into -- it was a relative of my wife's, and try as I might I couldn't get out of it. In retrospect I now think it'd have been worth it to gag myself so I'd throw up at the last minute.

Yeah but when you make a commitment to a friend you've know for 20 years......just didn't feel right to say "oops, found something better to do" ;D. But you're right, that would have been a blast and a good weekend with my cousin.
-
Paula will be updating the site & emailing the official annoucement this coming week. We just signed the contract with Holiday Inn & faxed over. Online Reg. will go live Nov 1st, 2008.
GET THEM IN EARLY!!!!! :):):)
-
I'm looking forward to coming back there again next year. Bringing a few with me too.
-
Thanks Tom....Can't wait to see you too. Will you need another candle gift basket to bid on or are you bringing her with you??? :D
We are meeting in Dundee next Wed 10/22 to finalize the reg form. Couple changes: Dinner at the hotel will be Saturday night as the Mayfly Fest had to be moved to another weekend due to someone not reviewing dates when they booked the Old Mill for 2009. Sorry but we can't move with them as it is to close to POCI (about 6days). Friday will be a spur of the moument gathering in the trailer parking lot to chat & socialize. We also have changed this year to help out the local Humane Society of Monroe County...It's time the small 4 legged friends get help too. We will be holding a food drive and/or items from there wish list. This agency is not funded by any state or federal goverment. All there monies and supplies come from donations.
Remember to Register early!!!!!
-
i'll be there
-
i will be there for sure and wife willing with two cars. and the kids and the nurse for my oldest. I am looking forward to this show tremendously and will be regestering in november as soon as it is on line. Thanks all.

FThe tentative date for the 2009 show will be June 19-21. We will have a "go/no go" deadline of June 1. ........ As of the date of this message, we need 130 paid registrations to make the 2009 show happen.
Man, I don't like the sound of that......

I don't know if I'm going to upset anyone by asking this question but......do you think there are just too many "bird-specific" shows or maybe it's asking too much to have a big Firebird show in Michigan when you already have the T/A Nationals down in Ohio? And now there is STARS in Florida and the BAN-ONE show in Atlanta.
Not trying to stir the pot here, and I don't have a dog in the fight, just playing devils adviocate I guess.
-
I'll be signing up and if everything goes well I can bring 2 cars, I'll definately be spreading the word in SW Michigan (and NW Ohio) ;D
-
Count me in. This shows in my backyard.
And an excellent excuse to go to Cabelas!!!!!
-
i'm following pointman 's lead on this. I am going to bring two cars, so i guess they only need 126 more. I truly encourage you guys here to go. How many all firebird shows are there? I'm not going to florida for stars when the possiblity of snow exists here in ohio. That just tain't happn'en. it's a nice show, close, come on go with us on this, less than 200 miles! The indy people, ohio people and michigan people need to support this show strongly. I am an ohio person and honestly i don't see going to even saratoga due to the distance/time. This show is close and reasonably priced. and you get judged by real experienced judges. The people are nice and have gone through some tough times financially and emotionally to put this together. A "Go No Go" date is a fair statement. we can not expect people like us to sacrafice their personal expenses for a show for the cars we love, thats just not right. If you feel i am pointing you out unfairly then so be it. This is definately not the type of talk we should be having about a "local" show for our babies. Come on guys and gals, help out participate, bring a car, encourage your friends to bring a car.
My car even got hit at the mayfly festival two years ago, i did not make the prior years show, i paid and got my goody bag at dayton, thank you, and the show was cancelled last year because i amongst others were slow to register. But even though my car got hit, and it still cost me $2300 out of my own pocket to fix it beyond the other guys insurance, i still support these people and the show and no i do not know the people running the show.
I truly am shocked that any thing but positive encouragement would be written about this show.
this is a good show and i look forward to seeing my buddy Gerrit at this show and the rest of you, please support this show. Tim

I really think a road trip is in order for this show. Its not too far, sounds like a great drive. See you guys there! Only 570 miles....10 hrs drive.
-
Thanks Hammer. I have a high school buddy that lives in Niagara Falls. I'll stop in there for a couple nights to break up the ride. Should be fun.
-

Ah, you can make 570 in less than 10 hours. I used to drive from Hampton, Virginia to my dad's place near Detroit, Michigan (790 miles) in 11 hours. ;) 8) Won't be making that drive anymore though, since he moved down to Tennessee this summer.
-
He He!! Probably do it much faster.......depends how many tickets I can afford! Going to take a nice easy ride.
-
Of course I need to finish dyeing my interior and re-install. Clean up and paint my engine. Wet sand and polish the car. Install the chrome window molding before I can show it there. Should be done by then. LOL
-
If I can stash a few bucks from next years tax refund away, I will try like hell to make Dundee and Dayton. Right now though, they are a distant dream. My take home pay wont even take me home.
-
If I can stash a few bucks from next years tax refund away,
You get a tax refund? :o ;) We've owed for the past two years, ugh. :( Seriously though, I'd probably try to go to GLRFG (sans T/A) if I still had family in Michigan and was planning to go last year (because the old man live 30 minutes away) before they cancelled the show.
-
im going and with a ta too!!
-
I just registered.
-
I want to come , I only live a little bit from there, Only thing is I have konone else to go with and we will probably have my oldests birthday party that weekend. I could probably just come for Sunday since it is not that far of a drive.
Can't bring a TA since I don't own one
-
Gold79ta, you will get to know a lot of Firebird/TA lovers by attending and making new friends, nicer people you will not meet anywhere else!
-
Just letting everyone know that wants to stay at the Holiday Inn and hasn't booked a room yet. Paula's email stated talking to Bill Knopp. I called this morning and was told he is no longer working there. Guess you have to ask for a guy named Rob. Haven't spoke with him yet since I keep getting voice mail.
-
I just got this email today....
Hard to believe it's February with a mere five months before our cut off date. The organizers have been working diligently behind the scenes and whew it's a tough world out there right now!
So in the spirit of President Obama's proposed stimulus package, we're launching our own and we don't even have to wait for Congressional approval!
Register online between now and April 15 and SAVE $10 off the weekend registration package! That's right $10!
Let's keep this show going. See you in June!
Paula Bousley

Gee.... I guess I should have waitied to registered and saved some money.
Maybe those of us who registered early will get a $10 refund...... think so?
-
It would be nice, our own little stimulus check-more than I'd see from our current administration.
-
This is REALLY a great show!! The judging is fair and CONSISTANT and the people who run it do an excellent job!!
If you're going to go this year, PRE-REGISTER early so the show can happen.
I hope to see you all there!!

Just registered my two Firebirds today. Be interesting to see how many cars are registered so far. Also got our room at Holiday Inn a couple weeks back.
-
Be interesting to see how many cars are registered so far.
Well right now it isn't that many that have registered. I think alot of people say they are going, but so far, they have not registered at all. If they do not see more registrations soon, the show will be a repeat of last year. Get your registrations in.
-
Just got my registration cards emailed today. #'s 9 and 10! Hope people are just waiting to register. Don't want to see this show go away, so get your registrations in everyone!
-
Hope all of you have fun.
-
Hope all of you have fun.
You're not coming? ??? ???
-
I emailed Paula today, as of today the registration numbers are down. They need to have more registrations SOON, so the show can happen this year.
Don't let what happened last year happen this year. People said that they were actually planning on going untill it was cancelled. If the same people would have pre-registered it might not have been cancelled.
Thanks, Dwayne
-
I just pre-registered when I heard this. It don't sound good. At $40 I cant complain. Havent booked any rooms yet. The car doesn't seem like a bad idea ;) If you party till 2AM thats only 4 hours till daybreak, & if its a nice evening you could sleep under the stars >:D
-
Anyone have any updates on the show?
-
I got my e-confirmation today, looks like I'm entry #12.
-
this is disappointing. It's april and they only have around twelve registered.
-

Yep// opened registration on January 1st... so in 4 months they got 12 cars... think they will get the remaining 118 cars in 2 months?
-
It'll be a shame if this is cancelled for a second year in a row, I'm afraid it will kill the Regionals for sure.
-
Well guys, there were atleast 13 people in this thread who claimed to be going, and last I heard 12 cars registered.
-
I'm planning on going, but the car won't make it unless I get a windfall of free time. Somehow all my time between Christmas and Easter got used up by somebody else on non-car projects. >:( :-\
-
Got my registration the other day, I'm #15. C'mon Firebird/TA Fans, get registered!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
at first i thought you your talking about the great lakes drag way in racine wisconsin. oh well i got my hopes up for nothing lol
-
I registered online yesterday. Hope it happens...
Nick
-
Someone posted on TAC today that they are #24.......
-
As of today, they are up to 30.....
-
Just read my e-mail from Paula, 29 days to go to the go/no go deadline and they need 80 cars yet! I don't want to sound pessimistic, but people are going to have to register about 3 a day to pull this off. This is a great show, I hope everyone pounds the pavement looking for friends with T/A' s to attend. I personally would hate to see this show go away.
-
I hope this happens, I want to go bad , especially thst it is near my crib
-
You & me both!
-
where you at in Michigan?
I'm downriver, Brownstown/rockwood area
-
I got a call from sdbandit today. He talked to Mike, one of the show organizers and the news is not good. It appears that the show is going to be cancelled for a lack of pre-registrations. They only received 33 out of the 130 needed.
It truly is a sad day in Michigan !! :'(
-
IT'S OFFICIAL !! The 2009 Great Lakes Regional Firebird Gathering has been CANCELLED !!
-
To all of our Firebird Family,
It is with VERY deep regret that the Great Lakes Regional Firebird
Gathering for 2009 will be cancelled. This is an email that we hoped
would not have to be sent out.
As we originally posted back in January, if the sponsorships and
registrations were not there we would have to cancel. Registrations
missed by approximately 100 cars and some of our original sponsors
have either closed shop and/or cut way back. We had great hopes after
talking with people last summer that the support would be there but
this economy has hurt everyone and it shows with the down turn of
funding. We've had many phone call meetings, emails and face to face
meetings to try and still make the show go under the quality that it's
been for 3 yrs. We also tried to wait until the June 1st "Go/NoGo"
date but many of our vendors needed commitments by May 15th. With only
approximately 35 cars pre-registered and only 2 weeks to go till June
1st, we felt that we had to make the decision now. For anyone that
has ever been involved with organizing events you know that vendors
need signed contracts and once you sign, your funds are commited. So
if you cancel you are still paying and our 2 household budgets are not
set up to sponsor a car show. What does the future hold...we don't
know. If our show had tenure behind it we would have probably
survived. The ecomomy will probably dictate what happens to a lot of
shows this year and going forward.
So with this being said, again from all of us we are deeply saddened
that this decision had to be made. As for your registration money, we
would like to know if you would consider donating a portion of it to
the Humane Society since the show did not happen. Please email to let
us know if you're willing to donate and how much. Those of you who
paid via PayPal will be refunded through them. Registration payments
made by check or money order will receive their refunds via U.S. mail.
One last closing item of business, if you made room reservations at
the Holiday Inn Express, don't forget to cancel. We very much look
forward to seeing everyone at other shows this summer and welcome any
positive input you may want to pass along.
