Matching number??
« on: October 08, 2015, 05:27:40 AM »
Hi
I just finish to restore a 1979 trans am and i like to know if its the original motor in the car,i think yes because the car have only 40 000 miles but im not sure at 100% if its the original motor and i dont find any number to proove its the original match number of the motor...
Look at the pics i saw in internet it suppose to have the serial number of the car write on the motor, about 1-2 inch under the 4A,but this motor dosen't have any number at this place...???
How can i check if its the original motor??

Look closer on the plain pad. If nothing there then you'll have trouble getting it registered anyway.

Looks like you have an Olds 403 engine...the partial VIN stamping ( matches VIN on dash of car if original engine) is located on a pad on the driver's side head (see picture)
