Topic: W72 Clarification

Hi all, new to site but not 'birds. Bought a supposedly 78 W72/WS6 automatic TA from a friend. Has correct carb, heads & air cleaner but wrong block. 15x8 snowflakes & correct sticker on door.

Now comes the confusion. My research says no W72 came with an auto after 3/20. My PHS docs show shipped & execution dates of 3/29. The WS6 option is verified & shows $324.00 which has been said (on this site) to mean it came with the WS6 & W72.

Could this car have been built before 3/20 and shipped 9 days later? Any & all thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Based on John W's W72 research and the Pontiac Newsletter, they only had to have an order in before the 20th, orders received after would be returned for adjustment as no longer available.

Thanks for the feedback. I was hoping it could've slipped under the deadline. I just didn't think there would be about 9-10 days between building & shipping. So this could be one of, if not the last auto equipped W72 cars. I'm not thinking it's worth big bucks now, just a cool possibility. Now to get the correct code block...

There was a six to eight week lag from order date to ship date.  I ordered my car in November 77 and it delivered Jan 78.  But the factory was closed for a week at Christmas.
