1980 transam pace car

we just purchased a 1980 ta pace car,we know how many were made but we dont know what number we have.
will the vin# tell us?

Except for knowing that GM built 5,700 of them, they didn't keep numbered records like #12 of 5,700 or anything like that.

The production number in your VIN and also the one on the cowl tag will not narrow it down either. You  can however find the build date of your particular car on the cowl tag (under the hood near windshield..on driver's side)

A member here (80TAPaceCar) (also known as Kevin) does have a list of VIN's showing which pace cars were actually used at the 500 though so you may wish to register your VIN with him here: http://www.transampacecar.com/Registry%20Cover.htm

I modified your VIN in your post as it's generally not advised to post full VIN for the public to see.
