I agree with you Brett,
I wasn't trying to say that all repros are bad.
Just that if I can find NOS, I will use that over repro.
If I can't find it, then I go repro.
And yes, even I can come up with a huge list of bad repro parts.
Not every part, as I haven't had to deal with that much in a car.
The thermo vacumn switch for the 1974 (and probably 1973) 455 Trans Am has about 5 small openings (It's dark outside, and I'm not going to go out right now to verfiy that) for vacumn lines, and is discontinued, quite a few years ago.
Since I have two cars, I bought two aftermarket switches.
I installed one, hooked up the lines, and found out I couldn't put the airbox back on, it hit the edge of the airbox, causing it to sit high in the front.
So, off it came, and back to the store.
They even showed me the catalog with the part numbers, to prove it was the right part.
Once ebay came out, I was able to find the original.
I have been buying all that I can find.
I even tried another aftermarket company, and it is the same size as the Pontiac one.
So, again, when I see that company version, I buy those as well.
I have a good supply of original NOS front Pontiac crests, both red and gold.
So, I have used a few of those.
The rest I don't want to sell.
I don't like the door panels for the 10th Anniversary Trans Am.
The stiching does not match the original, but it is the only versions you can find out there, if you need them, and yes, if I can't find original, I would have to buy those.
That's one reason why I haven't bought a fixer upper 10th Anniversary Trans Am yet.
I didn't mean to imply that it's all junk.
Sorry if people took it that way.
NOS is pricy, some very pricy, but that's what I buy.
