Formula Steering wheel option on build sheet
« on: July 01, 2006, 03:02:28 AM »
Hi all,
The buildsheet for my 78 Formula mentions 2 steering wheels. One is the original Formula 'woodgrain' wheel and the other is the Formula Sport wheel. They are both next to each other on the sheet. What's this mean?

Might have misread the codes. The sheet is patchy with letters missing so the second steering wheel option starting with 'N3' and then 'steering wheel' is more likely the Tilt Steering which is does have - N33.

On another section directly under K15 Fuel Return the word 'system' can be made out but nothing else. Further down is the engine type. Anyone know what option this might be? Air Injection?
It's a 78 Van Nuys Formula with 403 for California.
cheers,
Ben

Another unusual option I can just make out is T93 Black Taillamps.....it was a black and gold W50 option Formula, black lights would have looked weird and not something I'm about to restore!

K15 is going to be vapor return lines
K19 is going to be the Air injection
the tinted black lights are original and used mainly on the y88 special editon cars....but for a two tone formula it would be correct to.....started doing this i think in the later 78 model year and in 79 they went to the blacked out taillights....

as for the steering wheel
NK3 - is for the formula steering wheel and
N33 - is for the tilt column that you should have
Eroc
Fixing the car that Restore A Muscle Car jacked up....

OK, I'm going to make a wild guess.  The Formula came stock with a conventional steering wheel with woodgrain trim which matched the dash bezel.  The "Formula" steering wheel was and add on.  I'm guessing that all Formulas got the NK5 notation, and if you upgraded you also got the NK3 notation and had to pay the difference for the upgrade.  This is a big guess though.
