1978 Trans am tear down
« on: April 10, 2010, 10:31:08 PM »
Well I went to fix my headlights the other day and my ground effects or spoilers whatever they are called broke off cause they were fiberglassed in >:( Well after thar I was just going to chip the fiberglass and bondo away turns out the whole fender is bondo and fiberglass 1 inch thick and underneath is rust holes and crappy patches made out of flashing (paper thin tin) So after looking the whole car is bondo and fiberglass even the roof seams were bondo and just started cracking so I took the whole front end off today and I am yanking the motor and trans and taking the cowl and the whole interior out of it and whatever other little parts that are good off and scrapping the rest because the body is shot and will take like 10k to fix so I have everything to finish my first trans am and I am going to try to finish up the body work and scrape up the money to get it painted. But I didnt really lose any money I got a interior I needed and a motor and trans and other various parts. Will have maybe 300 from the scrapyard for the shell being that scrap is up.

Here she is when I got the car

The one I am putting together

This is what I want it to look like but with Snowflakes and 10 inch tire in the back

Looks like you have several solid birds. Are they being combined into one super Trans Am? Either way, can't wait to see the progress.

Yes sir Mike it is or was I had it for awhile and talked to the ppl for getting a title and I would have to do a lot of work to get the title so i stripped the whole car down to a bare shell and scrapped it

Well cut the yellow car up and sent it to the scrap yard got some money and painted the 400 pontiac I took out of it and getting ready to get it back together and drop it in. Ordering my floor pan tomorrow and will be here Monday or tuesday then onto bodywork. I wanted silver paint but my budget wont allow for the paint so I have a gallon of white. I like the White with red interior a lot dont see it much and I just like the way the color looks on the car itself. Will add more pics of my progress tomorrow if I remember the camera I know we're all a bunch of picture whores around here and I am one of them. Let me know what you guys think Thanks Shane

here are the pics I promised, got the car taken apart. Painted the cowl and the trunk. Even did the inner fenders, the trunk was rubbercoated then I spackle painted it like factory. The bottom side of the inner fenders where rubbercoated and the top was painted gloss black. Going to try and get the motor started this week or weekend. All is coming together after 5 years.
