'78 Hood Bird Color
« on: January 31, 2007, 09:03:49 PM »
So, I have a question for you guys. What I was wondering, is what would be the correct hood bird color for a Cameo White '78 TA. Somewhere along the lines of five repaints and an interior color change from tan to black I have no idea what color bird my car should have. Most of the '78 car's I have seen have the early ('73-78) style charcoal color bird, and this seems to be the generally accepted color. However, I have also seen cars with blue '73-78 style birds, blue '78-'79 style five color birds, charcoal '78-79 five color birds, gold early style birds, and gold five color birds. What exactly should have my car come with? It was originally a Cameo White car, with a Deluxe Camel Tan interior, as best as I can decode.

Thanks guys,

Levi

This is from TACREV's "Hood Bird Highway"

This shows the charcoal & red bird.

I had seen that one before, but I also noticed it was with a red interior. I have had several people tell me before that it all depended on the color of the interior. From what I have seen so far, all black and red interior cars had a charcoal bird, but the blue interior car I saw had a blue bird (not sure of any originality here). I have never seen a white car with a camel tan interior before, but this is what my codes specify. I'm really not certain if mine would have come with a charcoal bird, or some sort of gold bird, hopefully we can clear it up here.

Thanks,

Levi

I wonder if it would have had the same one as my brown '78 had.
It had tan interior.

Or

TACREV describes this as Black Center with Lt. Gold & Yellow-Orange/Black Feathering and it seems to have been used on a very wide variety of color combos. I've seen it on red and here it is on yellow.

Typically, the decals matched the cars interior.  So, if you have a white car with a red interior, then you got the red decals:

If you have a white car with a blue interior, then you got blue decals:

And if you have a white car with a tan interior, then you got gold decals:

Now, I know the last two images are of 1979 and later, but I just did not have any images handy of white and blue and white and tan 78 cars.

Does anyone on here have a picture of what a white '78 with a tan interior should look like? I have seen one before with a later five color gold bird on a white car, but would that be correct for a '78? I really would like to see one.

Thanks,

Levi
