Title: Need some help clarifying SE cars...
Post by: nakita7 on September 06, 2016, 06:43:23 PM
1) What is the difference between a Y82 and Y84 SE car in 78?

2) Are all 79-81 SE cars black and gold?

1978 Trans Am
\   RPO Y82 = Black Special Edition - built in Norwood OH
RPO Y84 = Black Special Edition - built in Van Nuys CA
RPO Y88 - Gold Special Edition - built in either plant
Black Special Editions were only built during the first half of the model year.  Gold Spedial Editions were only built during the last half of the model year.

RPO WY9 Hurst Hatch Roof was only available at the beginning of the model year (and only available with black Special Editions).

RPO CC1 Fisher Body Hatch Roof was only available at the end of the model year.  Although all gold Special Editions are only available with Fisher Body T-Tops, I am not sure if any black Special Editions  were built with Fisher Body T-Tops.  I believe that the change over from black to gold Special Editions occurred during the Christmas break along with the change over from Hurst to Fisher T-Tops.

I would like to know if anyone knows of a documented black Special Edition with Fisher Body T-Tops.

To answer your question #2. Yes, all 79-81 SE cars were black and gold. Only 78 models could you get a gold SE car.
