Title: New member. New '75.
Post by: zillman on July 31, 2011, 11:58:55 PM
Hey all,

Been lurking for some time, and have finally gotten around to chiming in on the forum. My new acquisition is an Ebay find that I received about a month ago. I'd actually been searching for a 77 or 78, but the more I looked at the older "round headlight" models, the more they grew on me. My only requirement was that the car was in drivable condition and not in need of any major mechanical repair. After some research, it became apparent that the '75 models were the least desirable of the Second Gens., hence the least expensive. So, I found one in Chicagoland that was listed in "excellent running condition." After owning and driving it, I can say that she is truly a monster that starts right up and goes.
Here's what I know about the car. The motor (400) and trans (TH350) were rebuilt less than 1000 miles ago. Not sure if the engine is original.  Comp Cam (unknown which, but previous owner thinks it is a 268H), #46 heads off a '73 GTO (previous owner says bigger intake valves were installed, but I have not verified). Edelbrock Pontiac Performer Idle intake, Edelbrock Thunder EVS 650cfm carb, headers (unknown brand), and Flowmaster 40's (too loud). The only issues besides the paint and body are the fuel and voltage guages don't work, and the shift lever is loose (but the trans shifts great).
I'm very much a beginner and that's the main reason I wanted a mechanically complete car. I'd like to be able to drive the thing during the learning process. So far so good. Anyway I posted a link to my Gallery that I hope you all are able to open and check the pics. Thanks for reading.

Thanks for the replies. To view the pics, I had to select "Click for Image" at the bottom left of my post. Then when the Gallery opened, I clicked the "View Slideshow" icon (which looks like a TV) in the upper left, and the pics displayed. I tried to create thumbnails when uploading but it was taking forever. Thanks again.

Congrats!  I had a '74 for a short time.  You are right.  Normally you can get them pretty cheap compared to the other years.  Keep us in the loop.

Hey Guys---- How are you able to view the pictures?
When I open the "click for image" link, all I see is a small square with a question mark.

Thanks guys for all the compliments. Hopefully she'll eventually look as nice as a few of the beauties some of you all are driving. I am really excited to get her in the paint shop. That should be in the next few days. The car was originally silver, but I'd like to stay with the black, and I'm looking for some silver decals.

Welcome to the site and welcome to the '75 club!  Looks like a great car and good find.

Thank you sir. Loved the fact that I was able to pick her up for nearly half what a '78 would've cost in the same condition.
