Here is some info. Although Pontiac produced 7,500 of the tenth anniversary cars, a handful of cars were prepared as pace cars on the NASCAR circuit, most notably those which wore the Daytona 500 guise. These are probably the most collectable of all 10th Anniversary Trans Ams. Sixty of these 10th Anniversary cars were involved in a "dealer drivaway program" where local dealers received a car that was used to parade around the Daytona Motor Speedway. These cars had "Daytona 500" emblems on the doors as well as NASCAR logos affixed to the rear quarter panels. The cars serial numbers were not believed to have documented and Pontiac offered the decal package accross the parts counter so verifying an actual Daytona 500 Parade car may prove to be difficult

Ok, so there are some TATA's out there. What else is shown here? I see people that know the TATA paced the race, but not 1 shread of proof that any of them were at the track. ALL TATA were code Y89, just like ALL gold SE's were code Y88. Those people put the Daytona info in the ad, so that someone that doesnt have the most knowledge of TA's ( and wants to buy one) think they are getting a super rare 1 of 60, which cannot be proven any where.

It would be nice to be sure you have an actual pace car. But **as of now** there is no known documentable proof capable of showing without a shadow of doubt a particular car was driven on the racetrack. Perhaps in some vault at GM headquarters, or in some rusty metal desk in an obscure corner of soon to be defunct Pontiac's engineering or marketing offices there is a sheet of VINs just waiting to be found - or shredded. We'll never know for sure until that record shows up and reputable people make a full background check of it. Until then, you and I and the rest of 10th TA owners can say "our car was at the race" with 99% surety!! ;D
Now that's an attention getter.
