funny..... as i was reaing through everyone's replies, i was thinking the same thing 80TApacecar said........ That car is a hard thing to put a price on....... so...... in reality, it's up to you and your likes as to if you want to spend that kind of money and if you will be happy with that car.

i'd say this about it. its a low numbers car, #'s match and were comparing a 301 to a 400?? I think most people fail to realize that most t/a's with the 301's were rated 175hp which is only 10hp shy of the L78 400

The 301 was also said to handle much better then the 400, yet it is still a Pontiac engine.  I really dont see any problems with the 301 except it isnt as big as the 400 or 403 when you pop the hood.

301's are externally just as big as a 400 or 455 same block different bore.

The 301 has a 1" lower deck height.

If the car is in good shape I'd say jump on it. Very easy to swap the 301 for a 400 or 455. Just keep the 301 in the garage so you can put it back to numbers matching.

301's are vastly different then the other pontiac v8s in almost every way
