that was fast, thanks !
I got some PHS records on that one..
Would the VIN help for anything else ?
its a Turbo auto SE model which is pretty cool, needs resto like
many of them out there. But its a nice rust free Az car.
In case anyone is registering the VINs on whats left they can
use it for that too.

How about...

1st digit - GM Division
2 = Pontiac

2nd digit - Series Number
W = Trans Am (75 - 81)

3rd and 4th digit - Body Type
87 = Sport Coupe

5th digit - Engine Code
T = 301 c.i.d, TC 4-bbl V8 (turbo) (1980 - 81)

6th digit - Model Year
A = 1980

7th digit - Assembly Plant
L = Van Nuys, California

Last 6 digits - Production Number
100001/up

I'd love to see a pic of it...I had an '80 turbo SE about 20 years ago.

Looks good...what are your plans?

yeah, the 69 amx is mine too
I have a small selection of early muscle cars
I buy and sell them as a sideline.
Living here in Az, I have the luxury of finding mostly all
rust free az cars.
But I try to hang on to my favs as long as I can  ;)
Basic plans to hold on to it as long as I can, over time I try to
do some mild resto, but usually leave the hardcore stuff to the
new owners when I sell them.

one more question, both of my turbo TAs are suppose to be 1980s
but one has the lites in the hoodscoop and one is just a blank
plastic block off panel.
Whats correct ?

Not 100% sure, but Indy Pace cars got the lights in 1980.  I have also heard that a few non-pace car turbo T/A's got them towards the end of the model year, but I have never had one.  All my 80 turbo cars have had block-off plates.

well you have my VIN etc and build date right ?
maybe we can see if the rumor is true, since its not a Pace Car
anyway.
I found a small part of my broadcast sheet today behind the back
seat, which was cool
and sent off for my PHS records today too. :)

thanks again

Seems like it's kinda' hit and miss...jjr is the resident turbo guru, he might have a more definitive answer for you.
I know Jeri (Pretybird81) has an '81 turbo T/A (non pace, non SE) and it has the boost lights.
