If it's like mine, the first place to start is tear down. ;)
After that the first large project is the floorboards, followed by the rest of the body work. Floors are first because they provide much of the support and could complicate the other body work if not taken care of beforehand.

Here's my gameplan for the 80 firebird....

1. Obtain as many parts as possible. :)
1a. Remove interior.
2. Next I'm tearing off the front end of the car to replace the subframe bushings and clean up the subframe.
3. Reassemble subframe to get to a rolling chassis.
3a. Replace all brake lines with ss.
4. Repair/replace floor pan/toe kick on pass side - only floor work required.
5. Repair/replace outer cowl - tis rusty, very very rusty.
6. Repair metal dash in corners - typical rust spot
6a....might need roof transplant as A pillars are questionable - won't know until I get a quote later today.
7. Door skin swap - I forget which side needs it off the top of my head
8. Repair rear quarters
9. Repair tail panel - lower section
10. Replace trunk lid - tis rusty underneath
11. Repair/replace trunk filler panel near rear window
12. Any other rust abatement near/on rear window channel
13. Paint work by Tom at Muscle Car Alley - getting full color change to black from montreaux maroon
14. Reassemble.
15. Replace rednecked wiring - and there's a bunch under the hood.
