Muffler sound?
« on: May 07, 2009, 08:55:07 PM »
I may be opening a can of worms but what is a good sounding muffler for my olds 455 with a mild cam and headers. It is not a daily driver I want it to be loud. I saw the Moroso spiral flow stainless steel for $51 each. I want 3 inch. What opinions can you guys give

Never buy a flowcrapseter again.  Restrictive and rust fast.

Thanks for the input.

dont do it, doesnt sound right......i had that setup, it doesnt sound good at WOT, just really ugly, id go with flowmasters before those, but the muffler i reccomend would be borlas, those things sound amazing

idk ive had my flowmasters for over a year now and there isn't a single spot of rust. and as for restrictive that design is practically an empty can.

there is hardly any restriction if you ask me.  but i mean thats just my opnion. to i mean you have to have something in order to prevent things like backfiring.  but its one mans opnion over another.  you will find people on this cite who HATE holley carbs and swear by quadrajets, and then people who feel strongly the other way.

I'm running street pro mufflers from Pypes. Sound is very good. My buddy Rick asked if I was running Flowmasters and was surprised when I told him they were from Pypes.

Dynomax race magnums. they're loud, but not just noise. they almost have a melody to them.
Flowmasters sound good if you have a little bit of cam. The only tradeoff is that A LOT of people run them. So if you're wanting to sound different, dont go with them.
NOT INVESTMENTS.

I have texas ta mufflers with pypes x-pipes and ram air manifolds with my pont 400 and the sound is awesome even at wot. I get more compliments on the sound and would not use anything else on any future bird I hope to have.
I dont have a wot sound clip but here is my 79 at idle.
