81 Trans Am with 76 olds 350 backfires through carb
« on: May 25, 2015, 07:58:53 AM »
Once again i need some help from all of the experts here. I have a stock 76 olds 350 in my car with stock HEI ignition.. I have checked the timing and it is correct at 20 btdc. I have a Elderbrock intake and a Holley 570 Street avenger carb. It has new plugs, wires, cap, and rotor. it still has a small miss and sometimes it will backfire through the carb under load or hard acceleration. i have read everything from ignition module to bad valve. I am hoping someone more familiar with Olds motors might get me going in the right direction.

i had a chevy do something similar to that and it was a bad cam, replaced it and all was good.  it popped and back fired quite a bit though.
