'78 ta and need to buy new pump to carb line, which one?
« on: May 06, 2009, 07:24:40 PM »
Well, I've been ordering all kinds of crap and my 2nd batch of parts showed up from Performance Years.  Looking over the loot I see my new fuel line that is supose to go between the fuelpump and carb (mine had been replaced by previous owner with braided hose).  I'm thinking that the one that was shipped is wrong because the part# says it's for 71-74 400.

Now, my car has the w72 package and while looking around at different fuel lines it appears there are those with and without foam insulation.  Should I get the one with the foam?  Performance Years does show the correct one for $28.  I hope I can return it for the correct one.  Not sure how this one got ordered because I had phoned in the order and talked to a sales rep who asked what year and model I had. ????

I would spring for the foam.. I did... it prevernts the fuel from boiling from the heat of the engine block as it feeds to the carb, preventing vapor lock as well as keeping the fuel a few degrees cooler for better atomization and a "small" boost of horsepower. ( small is the key word )

OK thanks.  I've just gotten a little confused as to which one I really need.  I look in one book and they say the same line for '70-'78 while others break it down.  Another thing I have a question on is my return line that goes on the frame rail is only like 1/2" from my header.  Is that a problem?  Should I try and move it???

foam insulated fuel line is correct for a w72 engine, bare steel for everyone else.  you'd think PY would show different part numbers for the two fuel lines. ???

Well, they do and I wrote the correct one down when I called in the order but what I got and what's on the order slip is the incorrect one.
