question regarding hood bird 78 Trans Am

Does anyone know how many 78 Trans Ams were made without the hood bird? I have my Father-in-laws 78 Trans Am in Mayan red and it never had a bird on the hood (all of his other ones did) I know there must be a list somewhere and I know I seen a 79 Trans Am also red without the hood bird.
but so far I haven't found anything online

RENOVATIONS:
True the hood bird was an option...but GM/Pontiac did not keep production  records of specific option packages

mine is almost done, new carpet and sound system this week then sell the old cb radio stereo..
