time to put her back together!
« on: November 23, 2007, 09:29:25 PM »
Well she's finally home, just in time for winter hibernation. A BIG thanks to Rick (RRR76TA)for letting me store her in his HUGE garage, and helping with the roll cage install. His welds are smooth  ;D, and mine look like little  scoops of ice cream ???
We took the glass out, well...took half and broke the other half out to do the T-top roof swap, and then I got cold feet. Maybe next year??.
For now I just cant wait to get behind the wheel, I should say climb behind the wheel. Its not so easy anymore! (just ask Rick)
and Im also taking suggestions on what color to paint the cage, Gold right? black would just hide it?

Looking very nice.  I had a roll bar in my 76 Camaro...I got real good a falling in and out of that car. ;D

I have to agree with Hammer, the gold my be a too bright and could be a distraction.  A satin black with gold pinstriping may look nice and compliment the outside as well.  A satin or flat finish will help to disguise those "little ice cream scoops". ;)

Well as for the welds,( ice cream) I still have to grind them smooth. thats on my to-do list.
But I do like the camel tan idea Hammer, gold would be obnoxious, and black would just hide the cage.
Thanks for the ideas.
As for the roof swap...I didnt happen just yet, Im still on the fence. It would call for a repaint, and I want to focus on the interior and get it back in shape.
The previous owner was switching the interior from camel to black. and I want it to go back to the camel.

You got the bird poop welds, huh?  :-[ Gotta practice!

Anyway, I dunno, I think the tan might look strange outside the car with the gold graphics. I'd personally keep it black to give it a stealthy look from the outside.

Either way, car looks real nice :)

I'm with logik, I'd do black and keep the stealth look.

Looking good Franko...... But can say it has looked better in the past.  But I know you will bring it back to it's former glory one day... you just have to stop with the beers and start with the work.

I'm going to show my 2nd gen ignorance here.. and ask.. are 2nd gens not set up for t-tops like 3rd and 4th gens?  Where you cut into it and its already got the flanges, etc?  I've heard several people swapping the roofs on 2nd gens.. thats why I ask.

No, the flanges aren't there from the factory and there are no markings.
You could just cut the openings like Hurst did with a sawz-all...but a Fisher roof would be my choice, in which case, a roof swap would be the route to go.

It's been discussed several times here if you do a search, you'll find the info. Any questions, just ask.
