Title: my 77 t/a
Post by: b3nny on July 22, 2007, 09:41:45 AM
Hi everyone.. just got my T/A home yesterday.. uhaul trailored it from Chesterville ON. to Harrowsmith ON. (Canada).. Thankfully it was a nice day to do this. So i have some pictures for you all to look at. I paid 2,750 dollars for the car. The "Closer" my wife.. really talked the owner down from 4,000 asking price. (she made me call her "the closer" on the way home that day. lol.) Any way this car is a real mix of good and not so good. I could not find the cowl tag or the build sheet. So i do not think its a S/E but if not i dont care. ( i like it anyhow). It does have some gold bandit items on it. and also the Hurst hatchs (although one is cracked!!!) The interior is pretty good like the original seats arnt horrible but do need replacing. The dash is great! The door panels not so great. and hasnt been cut up, needs headliner and a dome light. the seals and stuff need replacing. the body must of been done sometime ago but needs to be reworked. Especially the rear quarter as you can see from the one pic the tire flew off up into it crushing it back some. (ouch.. i believe it was a botched burnout or something.) The front floor pans had been replaced a couple years ago Not sure how good of a job.. .but the back seat pans under the seat where the clips are need to be replaced.. Anyone ever done this .. and is it hard for a body guy to do especially with the seat clip brackets there.. ?? Power door locks and windows work pretty much. All the lights work. So anyhow lets see some pics....

Well thanks for letting me share, please give me some feedback... I am gonna do body repairs... and interior first .. then get it painted. The motor is strong but it needs soem help and to be complted as its pretty barebones right now.

Thanks guys have a nice day.

Looks like a good project...thanks for saving another bird from the crusher :o and the parts strippers :-\.
So you can't find the cowl tag? It is located on the cowl under the hood near base of windshield on drivers side. You can always order the PHS ( www.phs-online.com ) documents to verify if it's an SE.

Floor pans under rear seat areas shouldn't offer any special problems.....good luck and keep us posted.

The wheels are painted incorrectly, but that's an easy fix.  The doors don't seem to fit right so you'll be in for some fun fixing those.  But it looks like an very interesting car with lots of options.  A really great find!  There isn't a body cowl plate?  That would give you the correct paint color for the car.  I thought at first those were SE front grills, but on a second look it's someone's handy work (or unhandy work).  Keep us informed on your progress....we like to see transformations!  A really nice car!

im pretty sure its a pontiac 400.. thats what i was told. I have a question is the cowl plate actually on the underside of the hood? If so then its gone as the hood was replaced. I read the cowl info on the site but still cant find it. Can someone tell me or show me in a pic exactly where it is supposed to be as im not even quite sure i know what a cowl is.. (Yes im a car nooby in training.) Oh yeah i will post some pics of the engine too .. the engine block is painted yellow which i thought was wierd. Thanks.. just cant find cowl plate.. thats all.

It's not attached to the hood, it sits under the hood.  Do this, lift your hood then walk around to the drivers side where your VIN number is on the dash.  The visuall start working your eyes towards the front of the car but don't go too far.  The cowl tag is right there near the back of the engine bay, where your wiper blade ends under the hood.  Near the fender.  I don't have a good pic or I'd post one.

Sure enough its not there .. Thanks for the clarification.. jeepers if it had been there well i'd best check myself into the eye doctors clinic. I wish it was there.. but I guess its gone for good. I got bigger fish to fry i suppose with those rear floor pans under the back seat. Thanks for the pic and all the help guys. I'll take a pic of the engine later. I had a heck of a time getting the hood open.. Hah .. I just didn't know the "trick".

Cheers,
Jon
