Here's a stupid question for you. I'm almost embarassed to post this, but how do you get the window crank handle off. I need to replace because the knob is missing.

There is a clip on the back side that holds it in place, if you go to most auto part stores they sell the tool to pop that off, it is usually in a section that sells replacement handles and parts like that, it's fairly cheap.

Don't be embarrased about asking a dumb question, I think they allow 3 here

Thanks. I got the replacement handle & saw the clip but couldn't figure out to get it off the door. Makes sense that it's a special tool. I'll head out to see what I can find. I tried a screw driver & a needle nose pliers but couldn't see how that would work with out damageing the door panel.

I've got two stupid questions left if anyones counting...

Before you run buy a tool that you are only gonna use once...try this.

Take a shop rag that is kind of thick material like terry cloth and slide it behind the crank to where the cloth will grab the two ends of the clip and see-saw it back and forth. It will pull the clip off without damage to the door panel. You'll need to have the ends of the clip up and slide the cloth down behind the crank. Then take each end of the cloth and pull them down with a bit of pressure and see-saw a few times and the clip will come off.

I always take a piece of "safety wire" about a foot long, thread it through the little clippy-doo, bend it to create a hook-like thing, and yank. After the clip is off, the crank just pulls away.

To put it back on, simply put the clip on the crank, align the crank where you want it, and push it onto the splines. It will "click" back into place.

Is someone keeping score, or must I read through the old posts and figure out how many stupid questions I have left?

Do that one and this one count as one or two?
