Build sheet. How many?
« on: December 10, 2006, 05:46:56 PM »
I found a build sheet (what's left of it)under the drivers seat.
My question is, is there more than one build sheet or may there be another one some other place in the car? The good part is that the paper still has the vin# and the W72,WS6 and Y84 codes still visible and thats about all that is left.
                                        Thanks

There is usually a second one on top of the gas tank.

I found mine behind the rear seat back, nothing on top of the gas tank.
I am hoping there is another one someplace as the first one is ripped.

Is your car a norwood car? I have read that the Van Nuys cars usually have one on top of the tank in addition to the interior where as the norwoods do not. I tried to see with an inspection mirror if I could see one on top of the tank, no luck. How hard is it to drop the tank? Is it worth it?

I dropped my tank today and didnt find a build sheet.   Its not that hard, just make sure your gas tank is nearly empty.  It is also a good time to go ahead and replace the rubber fuel lines while you have it out.

My car was built in Norwood.  I also didnt have any luck finding it behind the back seat either.  I have felt under the front seats and didnt feel like a build sheet was there.
I am running out places to look.  Anybody know of any other places to look?

Where Build Sheets are Found:

The build sheets were often hidden in a car as it went down the line. I don't know why. The most common hiding place is behind the back seat, tucked into the seat cushion. If it's not there, it may still turn up under another seat or behind a door panel or rear panel. Failing all this, it may be on top of the gas tank. I got three that way, but they were in pretty bad shape.

I have heard of the build sheets under the carpet, under front seats, behind quarter trim and even in the dash.

I found 3 in mine.

Behind rear seat, under the springs of the drivers seat & top of the gas tank.

And boy did they come in handy to verify the t-top delete option on my car.

First burn out as much gas as you can.
The less gas you have in it, the easier it will be.  You can do it by yourself, but its easier with two people.  If your going to do it by yourself, you will need a floor jack to lower the tank.
There are two straps that hold the tank up, remove the two bolts in the rear.  Push the tank forward and lower it a little.  There is a small ground wire that comes out of the top of the tank and hooks to the rear panel body.  Remove the screw and unhook it from the body.  Now reach above the tank and unhook the fuel gage sending unit.  It just unplugs.  Next you will need a drain pan to catch any fuel that may be in the fuel line.  The fuel line is located on the drivers side.  Just cut it and replace it with a new one upon installation.  There are is also two other fuel lines on the passenger side.  One is an emission's line and the other is a fuel return line.
Cut these too and replace them.
You are now ready to lower the tank all the way down.
Nothing to it.
