Power: Tach & window
« on: September 30, 2010, 09:17:16 PM »
The other day I went to take the car for a drive.  I found my windows won't let down and the tach stopped working.  Then after about a week the it now won't  crank.  The engine turns over but the plugs aren't get fire.  I have been checking relays and wires but so far found nothing.  Any advice???????????

check to see if you have power at the dist, if you do, then check the igniton control module, if its not one of those two check your wiring.....

Check the 2 wires that plug into the distributor cap. One is 12V power to the cap and the other is for the tachometer. So, maybe they got pulled off accidentally.

The windows might not be associated with the tach and starting problem. They could be a bad p.w. relay.

Do you know where to find a good solid wiring diagram?

I think it might be the coil.  Is there anyway to check before i replace it.

Now that I think about it more, since the engine turns over but doesn't start, I think your module went bad in the HEI. Replace it and I bet it runs. Be sure to put the heat-sink compound they give you on the bottom of the module.

Coils seldom go bad, but modules often will.

Its getting power to the distributor and to the front two points on the ignition control module. I replaced the module and still nothing. Could it be the coil? How could i check it?
