tach problems

hello, just had my motor rebuilt in my 10th anniv..400 4 speed...tach will sits a 500rpm and when i start it..it jumps to 3500 rpm and pretty much stays there, but i noticed when i hit the power window switch it jumped around,,has me confused, clock also worked and now it is not...any help would be great.....one more question...one red and a smaller green wire coming from passenger side, red goes to alt. where does the green wire go? to the actuator for the choke?...thanks in advance for any help

Sounds like a ground problem. Do you have the U shaped bracket under the steering wheel installed? Is everything together the way it should be?

ya the steering wheel column is all hooked up ...it quit jumping when i hit the window switch, but now when i start the car it jumps to 3500rpm and stays there, if i give it a little pedal it moves down a little instead of up...all other gauges are working...

There's a ground inside the tach that may have failed.
