79 Brake Booster swap
« on: June 27, 2010, 08:02:21 PM »
I never did like the painted brake booster , so out with the old in with the new.

the 4 nuts that hold it on,, they are a mother to get off.  and the lower left nut, that one took almost an hour to get off.

I didnt want to bleed the brakes so I left the master cylinder hooked up.  but did paint it black.  the cap is a year old and starting to rust. so I washed it and cleared it.  and did the same to the booster, hoping to keep it from rusting so fast.

I took the wiper motor off to make getting to the nuts a little easier.  and wile off it got cleaned and a new coat of black. and the bracket on the proportioning valve got a repaint.
I have a few other things I want to try to get done to but not sure If I'll have time before I leave for the POCI show next week.

they are metric.  I used a #15 wrench to get them off.   its the size of a standard 3/8 nut but the treads are wrong.  if you dont remember what they look like, they are a nut and washer combo. I can get you a pic of them.

sorry if I was no help.

Really looks great - I've got a cad-plated one waiting to go in mine.
What a difference it makes!

Nice job.

I did mine this past winter, I agree, the nuts on the back of the booster are a PITA!  Thank God for "ratchet wrench" ;D
