We did this last January and I thought it would be fun to do it again. Only last time there was only 200 members so it should be even more fun.
Okay this is how it works. Post a picture of your car, it has to be a recent picture in it's current condition. Don't make it too big or we'll take up too much bandwidth and that's bad. Then we'll nominate the top 5 from each category and vote. Submission starts right now until January 31. The categories are 70-73, 74-76, 77-78, and 79-81.
Brett, could you make a sticky explaining how to post a picture? The last one was deleted when the site got that virus.

Ok, I'll play...here is my 1978 Trans Am. I have had this car for 17 years and I am the 2nd owner. It is a base black T/A with the original L-78 400 and TH350. I took this photo this past Tuesday getting ready to take her out on a nice countryside drive.

All you need is a little bridge to walk over with Frog.

Larry - are you going to stick with the red interior - I might have some red interior stuff. I know I have some red cloth seat covers in pretty decent shape. Let me know what you need. I'll have to check out the shed to see what else I have.

Thanks! But there's not really anything left of the red interior (which itself isn't original) to use anymore so I decided to go with black interior and white paint.

If you had a buck for everytime I stole this pic of the net you'd be a rich man. Thanks for posting. RW
Tin,
I kept wondering why I was getting royalty checks in the mail. I have more pictures of my car with sidepipes FOR SALE if you want them???? I've even got sexy shots of just the exhaust pipes off the car (they're more expessive because the kids can't see em').
Looks like you gotta good start on your ride and it's coming along well. Your car will look very nice when you get done I am sure of it. What color do you plan on finishing her off with on the outside? I'm guessing you'll keep the firethorn interior?
Hey, Thanks for the flowers. The ol girl will get a coat or two of the original Starlight Black and the interior will be finished in the original White/Firethorn combo. Other than original components I'll only be adding all the power options (locks, windows, trunk, defog, courtesy lamp and trunk lamp). She was built with Rally's but I have a complete set of Honeycombs with NOS caps and bands that I'll run on her for awhile. I've heard that I'm doing this wrong. I've been collecting parts forever. I was told you buy as you build??? Maybe thats why I've hit a lull.
I'm very fortunate to have some hard to find pieces like all 5 NOS GM Spoiler Pieces, mint am/fm console 8 track set-up, the NOS honeycomb stuff, mint 4 speed shift knob, perfect bezel, every single piece for the spare, jack, inflator bottle all mint, etc. I'm just really lucky that I've been able to scoop up some of this stuff.
If I could find a set of perfect lower white door panels, firethorn 4 speed console, wire protectors that go under the sills and a drain hose I'd be content. I think everything else will either be available or repop'd by the time I need it.
I really hope to have her in paint by the end of summer. Keep your fingers crossed and I accept CHARITY via Paypal.

Here's mine. Uncropped shows it's a recent picture.

Sharp looking car, Bluebird -- but I have a question. The car is white with what appears to be a charcoal interior -- do you have another Firebird in the family that's blue? :?

OK - now I really want a 79 formula that is one pretty car......
Paul's Formula is definately looking good. 8)
I was never really into Formulas until I got "Crazy4my10th's" 1979 W72 4 speed Formula in the shop this year.....and now I'm kinda wanting one myself!
Formulas are really sharp cars when they are nice and new looking. You just don't see very many nice ones.
-
I may have a line on one I've been looking at for over a year. Ok WIFE, its just another car I added to the insurance plan ....;..yea right.
Hey Paul, what are the spec's on yours?
Thanks,
me
-
Hey guys thanks for the kind words. I appreciate it.
As for spec on the Formula:
1 of 367, W72 400/4spd. 56k orig. miles. Aside from factory a/c and body side molding, its a stripper, it didn't even come with a rear spoiler! Although it has one now.
Body is rock solid and straight, paint is a weak.

Looks nice Leigh!
I miss the beach!
I'll be back in Los Angeles in a week or so, for a few weeks.
You can bet I'll be hitting the beach there!
Any shark attacks this year down there?

Yeah, but mainly over in West Australia.....actually, nothing this 'year" but seeing as how the year is only 9 days old I think thats not a good indication....lol.

Trans Amless (trying to forget about having a joint, or going to the joint)
It's a sckool, we called it the joint, The medina county joint volcational sckool, then they took the joint out after I grad u ated, But I never smoke a joint in the paint booth with the other guy's, I just inhailed it. Kids, don't do drugs, they are bad for you.
Speaking of drugs, I took my kids to see a old freind of mine who did wayyyyyyy to many drugs, and he don't know who he is sometimes, and he talks, but It's hard to keep up with what he is talking about, one min. it's about cars, and then he talking about cliff diving or something, and then back to something else, well my kids asked what was wrong with him, and I told them thats what drug do to you, they mess you up, I don't think I have to worry to much about my kids doing drugs now.

That's a sharp looking car!

Thank you, I wish my situation hadn't been such that it has sat for a little over two years. Now my torque converter pump seal is leaking. I have to find a trans shop that I trust to take care of that for me. But the one good thing in true Trans Am fasion a fresh battery and a couple stabs of the throttle and it fired right up.

i love Pontiacs!! :D

For those that haven't seen it by now, here are a couple of detailed pics (let's hear it for the Formula'rs out there!)

NICE car! Rear seat console??!! Where'd you snag that? :D
-
I ordered the car with the rear seat console. I bought it new in June of 1977. That's 98% original paint including the pinstripping that was added in 1978. The only thing repainted is the nose, the flares and the shaker. The rest is all original. Car has 46,500 miles on it. Interior is original too except for the rear package shelf.

Ordered it new and still have it?? That's awesome!! I did notice the pinstriping wasn't stock but the car is a beauty to be all original. 8)

Jeff, you have to see it in person to truly appreciate it. Nick had it at the Nationals last year and it really looks better in person than it does in the pics.
-
I love that color Tbird!
I like the yellow too. My first T/A was almost a yellow 76 400 4 speed but the deal fell through and I ended up with a Red 75.
Terminator's 73 looks a lot better than my 71 Formula.

Yankee, I never saw you car before. I am a huge fan of Formula's! What a nice ride you got. Thanks for putting them out there. I think I have a new screen saver with your ride. Pretty car.

Why thank you Hammer! Us Formula'rs are a small but devoted group, we know the T/As get all the glory and attention, but as long as I'm around there'll be someone around to proudly represent the red-headed stepchildren of the T/A!

Hey, some of us Trans Am guys also have Formulas. :)
Here's a odd thing. When we towed the T/A to Indy and back we didn't get a lot of reaction to the car. When I loaded up the beater Formula in Kansas and headed for Florida, I couldn't get back on the road for at least 20 minutes at every rest stop, people loved the car. The car even had a Fear This sticker in the back window.
I have a friend with a 70 Formula clone and he routinely gets offers on the car. Everyone likes the twin hood scoops.

Here is a pic of my 70!
