well i'm getting ready to drop this 400 hp, 400 into my car, i'm getting the tranny rebuilt and the frame tied, but the stock axles as far as i know are still in there. just wondering what you guys have tried or know of some that are strong enough to handle the hp. needless to say, i don't want sh*t breakin'.

I put in a 420 hp 400 in my 78 ta with a four speed.  The only thing I did was put in a centerforce clutch.  Everything else is stock.  I didn't even bother to tie the frame (probable will eventually).  I've put a little over 1,000 miles and done about a dozen burnouts and powershifts and she still feels tight as new.

That is just my experience though

oh ok i was just wondering if i should look into stronger axles, but i'll take your word for it, i'm having the frame tied because the guy putting my motor in recommended it, plus he's doin' it cheap so why not. do you know what your motor puts out in torque? i wanna get an idea for what my new motor will be putting out for torque.

I am not sure what rearend is in your car but if it is a 10 bolt the weak point is the axle tubes. The axle tubes are pressed into the housing and they are known for twisting. I would have the axle tubes welded in place and change out the weak a** posi unit and put in a detroit tracker tru-track unit. The tru track is a gear style posi and reacts alot quicker than a friction disc type, also with no slipage. If you go with the tru-track you will need to change your axles to 30 spline. I am running a 455 in a 76 50th anniversary TA with 550 horse and 600 ftlbs of torque and learned the hard way about a weak rearend, nothing like shifting at 3500 and hearing boom. Good luck.
