Title: 1979 trans am wiring color diagram
Post by: AussieTATA on February 11, 2009, 02:02:31 AM: Hi all, need some help, i'm after a wiring diagram for 1979 trans am, i have one that's not matching the wiring in the car. eg 79's have five lights each side across the rear of the car, the diagram only shows four, some of the wire colors don't match either. I also bought 1979 restoration manual cd, cant find anything in there either. Does anyone have one or a photo or link or a down loadable one please. Mostly concerning the headlights and tailights/brakes/indicators.

Right click on the pic and select "save as", then save it off to your computer. Open the file with your picture viewing software and you'll see the part that's cut off on the screen here -- the tail light wiring is there, but it doesn't come through on here. The part of the above picture that you're interested in is shown on the right hand side. ;)

Post by: Rick on February 23, 2009, 08:28:17 PM: Yes, you don't want to resize it because it will lose the needed detail -- the letters may not be legible. You want as many pixels as you get get for those diagrams.

Post by: AussieTATA on February 25, 2009, 01:30:54 AM: Hey Mal/Kaz!! Haven't received the lenses from David yet, spoke to him again on Tuesday and he said he would be sending them out that afternoon, lol.

Hitman, need to see the wiring colors for the brakes and turn signals at the switch ends, steering column and brake switch etc.
What i have to do is run a new separate wire from brake switch to rear of car to isolate brake lights from turn signal circuit, eg I can't have the brakes flash when I'm turning. Then i have to convert the outer parker lights into turn signal lights.
Hope that clears it up a bit.

Yeah unfortunately here in Victoria Australia, to fully register the car on the road it is a requirement for amber turn signals. The stupid thing is, if your car is pre 73 you don't have to. If your scratching your head wondering what the difference is between a pre 73 red turn signal and a later model, i don't blame you. Lol.

I have just been directed to this page from TA Country. I live in England and need to convert to amber turn signals as well.

Is there any chance of me getting my hands on a pair of those amber lenses?

I was going to cut my original lenses and glue in some amber strips from another old lens.

I got a very helpful email from David with photos, asking if it was the parts I wanted. He gave me a link to his ebay page which was listing amber lenses for 74-78 and 79-81 cars. I have now bought a set for my '79. Lets see how it turns out.

I cant see a problem with the quality of the parts, but they do have to safely travel halfway round the world!

I will try and take some photos of the car soon. She isn't pretty at the moment. Mostly stripped and ready to start complete resto. Been left standing for 10 years due to marriage and house purchase. I will start a thread in the restoration section as soon as I can.
